Shooter Needed: Sixers Sign Royal Ivey?

Portland Trail Blazers v Milwaukee Bucks

While talks of re-signing Louis Williams and Andre Iguodala continue, Ed Stefanski was still making moves with the little money he has left. The Sixers have reached an agreement to sign journeyman Royal Ivey for the minimum contract. The 6'4" guard will join Willie Green and Louis Williams as combo guards coming off the bench for the new-look Sixers next season.

Ivey, 26, spent last year with the Milwaukee Bucks averaging 5.6 points and 2.1 assists in 75 games. Offense isn't his forte but he prides himself on defense. With Willie Green the first SG off the bench and Louis Williams taking both PG and SG time, Mo should try to fit Ivey in if he can. Hopefully he takes Rodney Carney's playing time...the minutes he had before his late season surge.

Some disturbing things popped up while I was doing my homework on this guy. Last year he got suspended 3 games for punching Bulls center Aaron Gray in his jewels. We all know about Reggie Evans' incident. What is up with that? Is that attractive to Philly management if you have that on your resume? Also, according to 82games.com's "Roland Rating", he ranked last in the league. If you haven't seen the kid, here's all the footage I could find of his college days. That was a low blow, but it had my Syracuse Orange in it.

I know the Sixers had to sign somebody since they only have 9 players under contract, but I hope management has their priorities straight. Those two deals have to get done or this offseason tastes a little less sweet. We had a little scare with D.J. Lou, but the Warriors opted to go with Marcus Williams. Hopefully, Louis doesn't take note of other signings and get any ideas of raising his asking price. My question is, were there no guards that could shoot that were cheap?

Stay tuned to Passion and Pride if you're sick of Brett Favre talk!

Doesn't bother me that he had one incident in 4 seasons. And from my seat the Sixers clearly have their priorities straight. DEFENSE! At the end of the day that is what is going to get it done for this team. Sure they need a shooter and I have no doubt that resign Iguodala and Williams. But adding role players that can defend is the smartest way to building a real winner.

Stefanski has said multiple time he will get a shooter, and I really don't think anyone in Sixerland has any reason to doubt him. I have a long list of shooters in a post on my blog and comparable contracts that Louis Williams and his agent may be looking at and referencing in their negotiations. Check 'em out.

Ivey played for the Hawks for his first few seasons and showed some signs of brilliance. He's not the best player you'll ever get but he works hard and isn't a problem in the locker room. When he's called on to fill in he doesn't a decent job but he probably won't ever be a great player in this league. He's an ok backup if injures occur, you could have done worse I guess.

Sadly, I believe he might actually be our best shooter at this point in time. And as Aarick said, he's not known for his offense...

If this guy comes in and plays 15 mins a game thatll be ok, get 4-6 points and a couple of dimes and play some mad D. The main concern for Philly is whether they should start Speights at the 5 or Dalembert.

Ed Stefanski absolutely understands what it takes to build a basketball team. He signs a young power forward in Speights who will be contribute immediately this year; 10 minutes- 6 pts-5 rebs-1 block. Signs the best low post player in the business in Brand; now he acquires a passionate, athletic, nasty defender in Ivey..... we are also close to signing Kareem Rush- Pure shooter...Stefanski may not be done yet you may see some sort of package deal to move Green, Williams, or Iguodala- for more pieces..Yes Stefanski understand this game He really does...
