Penn State Keeps BCS Hopes Alive

Penn State pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 34-13 win over Big 10 foe Northwestern. The win moves Penn State to 8-1 on the season with a 4-1 mark good for second in the Big 10.

Penn State trailed for most of the first half until Senior QB Daryl Clark used a QB draw in the closing minutes of the first half to tie the game up at 10 a piece. A late field goal would put the Wildcats up 13-10 at the half and looking for the upset.

Penn State woke up in the fourth quarter exploding for three touchdowns in a four minute span to break the game wide open. RB Brandon Beachum gave the Lions the lead for good on a three yard TD run early in the fourth. The Lions followed that up with a pair of one play quick strikes when Clark hooked up with WR Derek Moye for 53 yards and Evan Royster shut the door on the game with a 69 yard TD run making it 34-13.

Big 10 nemesis Iowa proved to be quite the escape artist yet again further damaging the Lions chance of the Big 10 title when they pulled a miraculous comeback on Indiana. The Hawkeyes trailed big in the second half before pulling away for a very deceiving 42-24 final score, even getting the cover after trailing 24-7 in the fourth ;)

Next up for the Nittany Lions is a return trip home to take on the Buckeyes. The game will not have the same meaning as recent years contests have had but any chance for a Penn State BCS berth depend on passing their toughest remaining challenge.
