Duffy Signs With Brewers

Outfielder Chris Duffy will have a new start with the Brewers -- photo by Nancy Zinni (MVN)

Former Pirate OF Chris Duffy has signed a minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers.  Duffy will be a non-roster invitee to Spring Training major league camp, and will be competing for a back-up outfield spot with the Brewers.  Duffy missed the beginning of the 2008 season as he continued to rehab after shoulder surgery.  He was finally able to return to the field in June, and spent June and July with the Altoona Curve, where he hit .259 with a homer and 4 RBI in 18 games.  But when the time came for him to come off the Disabled List, the Pirates removed Duffy from their 40-man roster.  He cleared waivers, and eventually was assigned to Indianapolis, where he played in 12 games during the month of August, hitting .275 with one homer and 6 RBI.  Duffy's winter league assignment in Mazatlan abruptly ended after just three games, where he went 4-for-13 with a homer and 4 RBI.  Chris, you aren't going to get a lot more chances.  Please get your act together and don't waste this one.

Another former Altoona and Indianapolis outfielder (2004 - 06), Rich Thompson, signed a minor league contract with the Phillies.  Thompson was in the Phillies' organization in 2008 also.

Are you into blowing things up?  On Saturday, the RCA Dome (aka the Hoosier Dome) in downtown Indianapolis, across from the Indy Indians' Victory Field, will be imploded.  The fabric roof of the dome was deflated a few months ago, and now they are ready to bring the whole structure down.  You can watch the festivities live at 9 am EST on Saturday (Dec 20) on local television: WISH-TV
It will likely be archived there too, if you miss the live broadcast.
