15th MLS team will be named SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC
On Monday at noon Pacific Time, the fans’ choice for Seattle’s MLS team name was announced to the world via a live webcast with video presentation and press conference on MLSinSeattle.com
The team owners were profiled (and they include among them Hollywood producer Joe Roth as majority owner, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, and comedian Drew Carey), and there was a review of the history of soccer in Seattle. It was announced that almost 14,000 season tickets have already been reserved, with fans depositing money over a year in advance without knowing the team’s name.
After the video, news updates were given, and then the unveiling of the name took place. The winning name was a write-in by fans rather than one of the three choices offered in last week’s five days of online voting. Seattle fans obviously felt a great connection to the SOUNDERS name, and the USL team with that name won the Division 1 Championship in 2007. Logos and designs for gear were also revealed, and the executives and investor group representatives then took questions from the media in attendance.
