The UEFA Champions’ League ended this week, and with the big European leagues finishing up their seasons earlier this month, we have our other sports passions to take up the slack - to fill in the gaps remaining.  The five MLS matches this weekend are going to be great, but it just isn’t enough to fill our cup of sports passion on a big Memorial Day weekend like this…

So, I digress, and by the way, just because I pointed you that Chelios - at 46 years of age, won his first Cup before the birth of last year’s MVP, does not mean I am a Wings fan.  Just as I am a Gooner for Life, I also am a Penguins fan through and through.  GO PENS.

Here are some tidbits for you to chew on, should you decide to join me in my Stanley Cup Sidetrack.  If you are a soccer fan and don’t follow hockey normally, and if your interest is piqued here, you should give the Red Wings v Penguins series a shot - by all accounts, it should be one of the best Stanley Cup match-ups in the past couple of decades.

STORY - Want to buy an Octopus? Let’s see some ID first (ESPN.com) : You can buy an octopus at Wholey’s Fish Market in Pittsburgh — unless you’re wearing Detroit Red Wings gear or otherwise let slip that you’re visiting from Michigan for the game.

STORY - Stanley Cup A Penguins Fan(Mondesishouse.com) : The Trib did their homework in unearthing an actual Saltsburg man whose name is Stanley Joseph Cup. And to top it off, he’s a Pens fan with a tattoo of his namesake on his back.
