The World’s Beautiful Game

Soccer-lovin’ Garnett — NBA Finals, Part Too, CHELSEA Bloo

After taking in Premiership matches in the preseason between his Celtics’ exhibition games in England, Kevin Garnett spoke to the media on several occasions during this NBA season on his love of soccer.  While in England, he had also visited teams’ training camps.

Although he had not many opportunities during the NBA season to go out of the country, he did take in Major League Soccer matches in cities where he played, as well as watching MLS, English Premier League, Champions League, and the Women’s World Cup on TV all since signing with Boston.

Chelsea made it to the UEFA Champions’ Final for the first time ever this year, but lost to Manchester United.  Similarly, they came in second in the league table. Manager Avram Grant was dismissed, and it was just announced that Luiz Felipe Scolari will take his place.

Garnett, like so many Premiership fans, are not phased by the musical chairs of a team’s management;  these are solid and entertaining clubs with long, rich histories.  Also, like most American fans, he can watch the top EPL teams live in many competitions.

Now that the Celtics have made it all the way to the NBA Finals, KG has been rewarded with a Chelsea jersey of his own, emblazoned with his name and number 5.  As documented by the NBA for their “Where Amazing Happens” campaign, he was very appreciative,

“Ya’ll made my day…This is crazy…this is Huge !”
