Patriots sign a few and drop a few

The New England Patriots may not have signed Asante Samuel, but they have signed a veteran linebacker, a few rookies over the past week or so and released a couple veterans and rookies.
The Patriots have again signed linebacker Chad Brown. Brown played for the Patriots in 2005 and was released prior to the 2006 season.
Chad was not a cornerstone of the Patriots defense, but could provide rotational depth at inside linebacker during training camp and as member of the team if he does better then in 2006.
The Patriots announced on July 14th the signing of three draftees which includes two sixth-round picks in Mike Richardson and Corey Hilliard and seventh-round pick Oscar Lua.

The team announced on July 17th, they inked two additional sixth-round picks with Justin Rodgers and Justise Hairston contracts completed.
On July 18th, fifth-round selection Clint Oldenburg signed his 4-year rookie contract at Colorado State.
The Patriots released veteran cornerback Antwain Spann, receiver Jonathan Smith and rookie tight end Jake Nordin.
Three rookies are still left to sign contracts: first-rounder defensive back Brandon Meriweather, forth-rounder defensive tackle Kareem Brown and seventh-rounder center Mike Elgin.
One more week until training camp opens! Wahooo!

I don’t see Chad Brown making the squad. Does anybody know much about Oscar Lua? Any chance he might step up like Banta-Cain did (though sooner rather than later)?
