The good, bad and ugly of Patriots camp

As there was no training for the Patriots on Saturday and only an evening session planned for today, here are a few highlights since the beginning of camp.
The Good
Wes Welker looks every bit as good as we could have hoped for. No longer a question on a second and a seventh round pick for this guy? Welker just needs to stay healthy and get used to winters in NE!
Jabar Gaffney seems to have continued where he left off last year and a good go-to target for Brady
Ellis Hobbs seems to have recovered from his broken wrist and offseason surgery. Hobbs has been making play at CB and has dominated during the kick returns drill on special teams.
Pierre Woods seems to have gained speed and power during the offseason. Woods has done a great job in camp and looks to replace Tully Bunta-Cain in the OLB rotation.
Bam Childress is taking advantage of injuries to a few wide receivers including Randy Moss and Donte’ Stallworth. Childress has been making great plays catching the ball and also doing well in special teams practice on kicking and punt returns.
The Bad
Garret Mill’ injury – the young tight end again injured and losing valuable time to learn the offense and show what he can do
Randy Moss’ injury – everyone goes crazy as moss tweeks a hammy. As long as he is good to go by the start of the season – figgetaboutit
Tedy Bruschi – heart and desire will not hold back Bruschi, but Bruschi has been beaten a quite few times drills. It is still early in the preseason, but hopefully he improves before the season opens.
The Ugly
Asante Samuel’s holdout – nuff said.
Chad Scott going to IR leaves the Patriots short handed at cornerback. Scott has been a dependable CB the past couple of years for the Pats. With Scott and Samuel missing that gives additional concern to the CB position then there was over the pst few months of Samuels holdout.
Donte’ Stallworth going to PUP before training camp officially opens (to the public anyway). Stallworth is known to hammy problems and hopefully this will not sideline him for much longer – UPDATE HE SHOULD BE AT PRACTICE† MONDAY!
Rashad Baker still has not made it to training camp is is not on the PUP. Makes you wonder if he is missing out on some opportunities to make the team.
GO PATS!

  1. Jameros says:

The Boston Globe is reporting that Donte Stallworth will be off the PUP and at Monday’s practice. It was mentioned on Mike Reiss’s blog (an excellent source for info) on the Globe’s website, http://www.boston.com/globe
