Second Half
Bucs start at their own 21 after Goost’s kick goes out of bound at the Tampa 1-yd line.
Bucs come out running. Oscar Lua and Rashad Baker making tackles but too much yardage given up.
Justin Rodgers sacks McCown and the Bucs are forced to punt.
Matt Gutierrez starts the second half. Evans continues to get alot of work at fullback. Garret Mills in at H-back. Kelvin Kight and Bam Childress lining up as recievers.
Gradkowski is in at QB for the Bucs and does too well against the Patriots defense. Patriots linebacker Oscar Lua is making quite a few tackles. As well as Justin Rodgers and Willie Andrews. But the Bucs keep picking up the yards from running back Lionel Gates.
LeKevin Smith does a good job knocking the ball loose from Bucs running back Lionel Gates and Pats linebacker Rodgers recovers the fumble.
Now with the ball, Gootz with passes to Heath Evans and Bam Childress . Garret Mills finally gets a bit of action and holds on for a 15-yd catch to bring the Patriots to Tampa’s 22 yardline.
Heath Evans is out for a pass when the defense is called for pass interference. Pats have the ball first and goal.
Evans is not able to do much after to running attempts and Gootz then misses his target in the end-zone. That would have been a touchdown!
Goost comes in for the field goal.
Game Tied 10 -10
Bucs have rookie running back Kenneth Darby earning a few yards on the ground before Gradkowski throws 3 strait incomplete passes and the Bucs are foced to punt. CJ JOnes is back for the Pats and calls a faircatch at their own 18 yardline.
Gootz connects to newly acquired TE Marcelus Rivers for an 18-yd gain. Rashad Baker rushes for 8-yds. On the next play Kelvin Kight is called for a false start and the play is dead. That is only the second penalty on the Patriots.
Ouch the Pats are forced to punt and Larry Anam is called for running out of bounds on the punt and not returning immediately to the field – so it is unsportsmanlike conduct and 15 yards.
The Bucs come out with Gradkowski and behind the work of RB Darby get wihtin field goal range with 3 seconds left.
Bucs kicker Matt Bryant on the kick the field goal
Game Over. Bucs win 13-10.
I was disappointed that Brady and Cassel did not throw more to the first string receivers. It seemed neither QB had a good rhythm going throwing the ball.
I am also disappointed that we were not able to run the ball that well.
Special teams for punting , punt coverage and kick-off coverage was good. TAmpa had ZERO yards in kick-off returns – NICE!
Whereas the Pats had 3 kick returns for 80 yards…. very nice!
