Colvin out, BrownX2 in

ESPN Sportscenter just reported that the Patriots placed LB Rosevelt Colvin on IR, ending his season due to a foot injury suffered in this past Sunday’s game against the Eagles. This is a huge loss for the defense as Colvin had been playing†great football coming off the end as a pass rusher. In reaction to this, the Pats signed old LB Chad Brown, who had been with the team earlier this season and played for the team during the 2004/2005 season.
The Patriots also activated long-time Patriot and fan favorite Troy Brown. To make room for Brown, the Pats released another Brown, defensive lineman Kareem Brown, the team’s 4th round draft pick. Kareem Brown is eligible for the practice squad should he clear waivers if the Patriots decide to bring him back.
Where does Troy Brown fit in? #80 is receiver #7 on the roster, with Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Donte Stallworth, Jabar Gaffney, Kelley Washington, and Chad Jackson already on the list. Troy does bring versatility, as we all know, as he can also play corner in an emergency, play special teams, and was even the emergency 3rd QB last year before the team signed Vinny Testeverde. The secondary looks like it took some hits Sunday night, so the thought process may be that Troy gives them extra depth in an area of concern. Troy also brings in more veteran leadership in the locker room, something you can never have too much of. When and where Brown plays should be answered Monday as the Pats play the Baltimore Ravens.
