Not perfect, but Patriots head to Super Bowl

In a game that started offensively completely opposite from last weeks win versus the Jacksonville Jaguars, the New England Patriots are heading to the Super Bowl!
Although Philip Rivers was hurt, he played the entire game for the Chargers. His gutsy performance is not indicative from the stats of 19 of 37 for 211 yards and two interceptions, but let me tell you… he made a few throws that Brett Favre would have been proud of! OK – he is no Favre, but being injured he did pretty well.
If anything can be said about the Chargers it was how much they missed Ladainian Tomlinson. He played sparingly for 2 for 5 yards and only ran once for one yard.
That being said, I was one person against Rivers throwing abilities being injured, but he carved up the New England defense utilizing Vincent Jackson and Chris Chambers for a combined 183 yards receiving.
As mentioned in a previous post, turnovers would play a major part of the game. Tom Brady threw for 209 yahds, two touchdowns and 3 interceptions.

    That’s just ridiculous.
The defence won this game, not Tom Brady. Brady was as spectacularly ordinary in this game as he was just plain spectacular a week ago.

Did Maroney hit McCree so hard that he vomited?

Great game and so happy to be Superbowl bound once again! I have to admit I was nervous almost the entire game, esp with the Pats scoring drive being blunted by a pick in the end-zone but then again I am always nervous.
Humongous kudos to the Patriots defense who held the Chargers to FG’s on every drive inside the Pats red zone. If the Chargers scored TD’s on any of those, who knows what might have happened. The D was HUGE.
I have to give some props to Philip Rivers from SD. As much as I may not like that guy for some of his antics, he played a heck of a game on a bad leg. Unlike his teammate on the sidelines L. Tomlinson (hey fine by me I’m not complaining!), Rivers really showed some guts and earned a measure of respect from me with his play in that game.

My game balls would go to Laurence Maroney, Kevin Faulk, and the Patriots redzone defense. If half of those field goals were TDs we’d be a pretty depressed Patriots Nation.

  6. Junior Seau is a professional. He will always be a Charger fan, but he is currently a Patriot and therefore will give his all for his teammates. I would not have him be any one else.
Kevin Faulk was the Patriot MVP today.
A good game, and we won some respect… but we didn’t want respect. We wanted the Super Bowl.
Now, go get Junior the ring he deserves!

You know what? It’s going to be jolly tough against the Giants. They have some super momentum going and the Lesser Manning is really coming of age. I think the Superbowl is going to be an awfully tough fixture.

  8. Jamie says:

DON’T UNDERESTIMATE THE GIANTS!! In 2001, nobody gave the Pats a chance to beat the Rams, who coincidentally beat the Pats during the regular season (just like the Pats beat the Giants earlier this season). I’m sure Belichick won’t let his players get too cocky.

Congrads to the patriots and there fans for having a great season @ playoff run…. But hear we come THE NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS ……It should be a very well played superbowl game by two very good football organizations…. GO… G-MEN….

  10. Jason says:

Giants opening up 14 point dogs is crazy. They have the defensive formula that can beat the Patriots. Great pass rush based off of their defensive line leaving linebackers back to take away the slot. They will give up occasional long ball but they are going to put a lot of pressure on Brady to play the perfect game (again). On offense, a clock-controlling power rushing game is also pretty helpful. And you also have those very tall and athletic wide-outs….
This is not going to be a blow-out.

Excuse me, but before I vote in the new poll, could someone advise me as to how an “American Idol contestant” loses?
I’m leaning towards “In Bill We Trust”, but I just think the Giants are on such a roll and playing with such determination and heart that a defeat is a distinct possibility, especially if Brady fannies around like he did yesterday.
So, if an American Idol contestant loses with dignity and grace, that’s apossible for my vote as well.

  13. Brent says:

Not sure – I never watched American Idol….

  14. Ralf brown says:

patriots 1000 giants -1000 anyone got something to say to me say it 2 my face the giants suck balls

  15. Andrew Farrar says:

Yes, you said the same on the Giants part of the site – most amusing and intelligent, if you’re a cabbage, I suppose.

  16. GUARD53 says:

RALF not only real smart , but REALLY scary !!!
