Love the pick guys. No CB is good enough for the 7th (Talib…are you kidding me?!) Rivers can be a solid rotation guy and allow Adalius to move to the outside from day 1. The only problem I see with the Pats drafting Rivers will be the Patrick Willis comparisons, who was taken at 11 next year, and sorry to disappoint but Rivers is no Willis. Other than that, Pats fans will love the pick.
Also, the future of Junior Seau is in question big time, and make all the jokes you want about his age, but he’s a valuable rotation guy and adding Rivers would be necessary if Junior leaves.
Honestly I doubt Junior is returning, especially if Rivers is indeed drafted. Now I feel that the Pats would like to grab Rivers a few spots back, but we didn’t have that luxury in our writers’ mock draft. I don’t know what Mel Kiper is thinking having the Pats draft Aqib Talib at #7. He’s out of his feather-haired mind.
Nice write up Jamie!
As mentioned in one of my previous comments – the Pats don’t mind taking guys they like with a higher pick. It all depends on the value they see with that player.
With Rivers in the mix at ILB – he should be starting by end of the year. Or even earlier depending on Hobson.
I think if Rivers is the selection Seau may return to help out another USC 55 work through the NFL process, but then who will get 55? Not a bad problem to have.
Mel Kiper now has the Pats picking Keith Rivers in his mock, which you can view on ESPN on the ticker at the bottom of the screen. His previous pick for the Pats was CB Aqib Talib.
Kiper must’ve seen your pick and changed his mind..
LOL He must have.
I really like this pick too. I agree that not only is there incredible depth at cornerback in this draft, but also none of them are worthy of the seventh overall pick. I’d love Ghoslton here, but he’s just not going to be available. Trading our seventh pick to the Eagles for Sheppard and their first-rounder, through which we might still be able to land Rivers, does that sound plausible at all or would the Eagles want more in the trade?
john,
I’m pretty sure that the Eagles want a #1 for Sheppard. That would be a straight trade, and asking the Eagles to include their #1 I think would be asking way too much from them. Sheppard was a first rounder himself if I’m not mistaken and has certainly played like one, so that would be a fairly even trade. However, along with Sheppard comes a new contract, which would get close to what Samuel signed for. In that case, why not just keep Samuel? I highly doubt the Pats even entertain giving up their 1st for Sheppard.
Nah Jamie f*** you. John’s right.
