Cassel to Kansas City!!
Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, and the Boston Globe have announced a deal is in place sending quarterback Matt Cassel to the Kansas City Chiefs. Details are not yet available, although Peter King believes it is for a second round pick. He has known to be wrong, but has been fairly accurate when concerning the Pats.
Even if only a 2nd-rounder for Cassel, that is still not too bad for a 7th round draftee that only played one year.
Now that this is done, the only speculation left is if Cassel will indeed remain with the Chiefs or be a part of a three team deal.

Mike Vrabel WHAT?!
It happens. I know that.
It’s happened with Lawyer Milloy and Ty Law and Willie McGinest and Ted Johnson. It’ll happen with Tom Brady and Tedy Bruschi and Rodney Harrison too, no matter how much I hate the thought. Nothing lasts forever, especially when we’re talking about the careers of professional athletes.
But damn if it doesn’t still catch you off guard sometimes.
That’s definitely the case with the reported trade of Mike Vrabel to the Chiefs.
Patriots losing players and a trade for Cassel? While Jets look to buy into the playoffs
Rumors have it the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are interested to trade for Cassel. It appears the rumors started over at the Musket Fire
blog, which, truth be told, I had never heard of before. It seems like
a good site with a lot of information. It would be good to know how
reliable their sources are on this one.
Tom Curran of NBC Sports writes that ‘all is quiet‘ as the speculation is that it may be a three-way deal between New England, Kansas City and Tampa Bay.
Vrabel traded to the Chiefs
Veteran OLB Mike Vrabel has been traded to the Kansas City Chiefs. I haven’t heard any details on what the compensation is yet and I’m running out of work at the moment, but I wanted to let our readers know. More details and analysis to follow later. I’ll be interested to read what you folks think about such a strong veteran leader being traded.

There is a consistent theme when categorizing the
position needs for the Patriots in 2009 – getting younger on defense. The last
few years have shown that the Patriots have been struggling to stay healthy,
have top back-ups in rotation and the need to get younger.

Patriots continue to make roster moves
After signing running back Fred Taylor, the Patriots continue to be active and have signed former Jets tight-end Another addition today Chris Baker. Baker is a receiving tight-end but had a medoicre season with the Jets last year after leaving the Browns. He will being a bit more competition in training camp and this may mean the Patriots may not pick up a TE during the draft. Haha – you never know with Bill Belichick – we may get one in the first round.
According to the NFL’s Adam Schefter, this continues the long time Border War of stealing talent. Anyone remember a guy by the name of Deion Branch??
RB Fred Taylor joins Patriots
Profootballtalk.com is reporting the New England patriots have signed running back Fred Taylor. The news follows NFL Network’s Adam Schefter announcement from Thursday night.
Taylor will replace Lamont Jordan and join Laurence maroney, Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk and BenJarvis Gree-Ellis.
Lets see how much this impacts the salary cap!

Building a Cassel for the future or tearing down a team?
There is much speculation on the health of quarterback Tom Brady and the franchising of Matt Cassel. Understanding that nearly $30 million of the Patriots salary cap is currently being used up by an injured QB and one that may be a potential starter – either in New England or somewhere else, the price seems a bit high.
The Patriots are currently about $3 million or so under the salary cap with 51 players (LB Tully Banta-Cain’s recent signing needs to be considered) on the roster. Barely enough room to bring in a few of their current eligible free agents, pick up any new players or pay the rookies picked up in the draft.
Tom Brady 'knee' update and Patriots add another 'Light'
As sure as the winter nights have been long and cold, there have been many stories on quarterback Tom Brady’s knee and his ability to play come opening day.
The recent buzz from Oskar Garcia of the Associated Press, as I read on Yahoo! Sports, is Brady’s chances are good for a full recovery! Dr. James Andrews, a Birmingham, Ala.-based orthopedist for elite athletes, noted:
“He had excellent care, and he had an aggressive approach early on with early recognition to be able to control the infection, and therefore he’s gotten through it,” Andrews said. “They didn’t sit on it and wait on it, hide with their head in the sand. They went after it immediately.”
Patriots: the more things changes, the more they remain the same
The Patriots have been making a few changes to their roster and a few surprises have occurred. The Patriots dumped wide receiver/special teamer Kelley Washington and offensive lineman Billy Yates in oredr to save room on the depleted salary cap (just around $4 million) now that quarterback Matt Cassel has been franchised and signed the offer.
The Patriots have since re-signed Yates to a more cap friendly contract as well as signing former Patriots linebacker/special teamer Tully Banta-Cain who was released from the San Francisco 49ers. Banta-Cain left the Patriots for a large free agent contract, but never was quite the every down linebakcer the 49ers projected.
