What's the most funny about this? While he was here, the general consensus seemed to be that we needed to upgrade. Now we have nothing, and the upgrade is...
wait for it...
Blake?
How does that make sense?

It does make sense if the only other option is to overpay for a mediocre third baseman, shortstop, or second baseman. Every proposed trade or signing that I have heard of is a risky or lousy deal. Blake can also play some outfield if necessary which could allow them to carry only 4 outfielders and add another pitcher. If he comes cheap enough and is a good guy to have in the dugout then it makes sense to at least consider this until something opens up. While I was never a big fan of his a panic move could cause longer term pain. I doubt anyone would dispute the upgrade comment but if the shelf is bare better off buying some time.

Teahen, Blake, Cordero ... I'm trying not to get too depressed this early in the offseason, but "dumpster diving" is the only phrase that comes to mind when I read names like these.
